RenewEL began when Rachel saw how powerful nature could be for people who felt pushed to the edges of society. With her background in landscape architecture and her heart in community work, she built a place where people in recovery, ex-offenders and individuals overcoming homelessness could find purpose, skills and belonging through outdoor work.

The team creates these hedgehog houses by hand, using traditional woodworking skills taught on the job. Every house offers a safe, sheltered space for local hedgehogs, helping protect one of the UK’s most threatened garden visitors. And every house is also part of someone’s journey back into confidence, stability and meaningful employment.
